

Bletchley U16s 36 – 32 Northampton BBOB U16s
Bletchley U16s produced a resilient and determined performance to secure a 36–32 victory over Northampton BBOB in an entertaining and competitive friendly at Manor Fields.
Both sides started at a high tempo. BBOB opened the scoring at 15 minutes to take an early 0–5 lead but failed to convert due to taking too long and being caught out by the shot clock, however Bletchley responded well and quickly found their rhythm.
At 20 minutes, strong forward work off a scrum created the platform for Bletchley to level the score at 5–5.
Momentum continued to build, and at 25 minutes, a quick tap from a penalty created space out wide, allowing Bletchley to move ahead 10–5.
The hosts extended their lead further at 30 minutes, when a well-weighted kick through the middle was chased aggressively and grounded. The conversion was added to make it 17–5, which remained the half-time score.
During the first half, BBOB were reduced to 14 men at 13 minutes when their prop (3) received a yellow card for a late tackle without wrapping.
BBOB responded early in the second half. At 37 minutes, they crossed for a converted try, reducing the deficit to 17–12.
Discipline continued to impact the visitors. Just three minutes into the second half, BBOB (20) was shown a yellow card for failing to retreat 10 metres and tackling the ball carrier from a quick tap penalty.
BBOB continued to build pressure, adding further tries at 43, 51 and 54 minutes, all unconverted, to take the lead at 17–27. They extended this further at 63 minutes with another unconverted try, making it 17–32.
At 58 minutes, BBOB’s prop (3) received a second yellow card for a side entry and sealing off, resulting in a red card and reducing them to 14 men again.
Bletchley’s response was outstanding. At 65 minutes, a strong run down the wing brought the score back to 22–32.
Moments later, BBOB were reduced further to 13 men when their prop (1) was shown a red card for dissent towards the match official, shifting momentum further in Bletchley’s favour.
At 68 minutes, Bletchley capitalised with a quick tap penalty, breaking through the middle to score under the posts. The conversion brought the score to 29–32. Dissent to the referee by BBOB following the try saw play restart in Bletchley’s favour with a penalty restart for Bletchley.
With confidence growing and a numerical advantage, Bletchley completed the turnaround at 70 minutes. Another quick penalty and efficient movement of the ball out wide saw the hosts score and convert, sealing a superb 36–32 victory.
Bletchley showed excellent attacking intent throughout, combined with strong support play and discipline. Crucially, the players maintained composure when behind and continued to play structured rugby, which ultimately proved decisive.
It was a strong team-focused performance, highlighting resilience, discipline, and the ability to adapt under pressure in a competitive and valuable development fixture.
