This Sunday the Bletchley women’s squad welcome Stockwood Park to The Manor. Both teams brought a physical side with them and grafted hard in both attack and defence. Despite adversity faced, Bletchley were victorious and earned a bonus point win.
Kick off! The first 10 minutes of the game saw some tough competition from the two sides and many strong tackles put in. About 15 minutes in, Bletchley saw Lauren with her snakehips dance through defense along the wing to score the first try of the game, converted by Jess. Bletchley found their groove as a team and scored another 2 on the bounce by Ellen and Leah.
In quick succession Bletchley showed off some lovely supporting play, ending with Shenay over the try line! Converted by Jess. Shortly after, Emily delivered a kick to the far corner, which Lucy kicked on and Charlotte recovered to score.
Following this, after a massive defensive set from Bletchley in our 22, Stockwood Park put 5 points on the scoreboard. 29-5 sees the halftime whistle blown.
The second half kicked off with a buzz from Jess, and a quick turnover from Sophie gave us back possession. After taking over at 9, Shenay found her way over the try line for a second time today! This was quickly followed by a hungry Bletchley pack looking for the try line. After several pick and go’s, it was Kass that got her name on the score sheet! Two minutes later, a whole team effort from edge to edge saw Lauren score her second of the game.
Stockwood Park came back fighting and drove some hard carried in our 22. After a few infringements of high tackles across the team, a yellow card was awarded to Bletchley and a penalty try awarded to Stockwood. Unfortunately due to injury, Stockwood Park dropped to 14 women on the field. Bletchley kept up the positive mental attitude despite some resistance from the opposition’s supporters. Both sides continued the graft to make 14 women stretch and make up for the missing 15th. Stockwood Park soon took on another injury and dropped to 13 players, which Bletchley matched. Despite this, Lauren scored her third try of the game, hattrick!
Final score - 55-12 to Bletchley.
Special mentions this week go to Sophie, our players player, for the grit and determination she put into the game. The tackles never stopped, and she was there supporting every step of the way. Our sponsors player this week goes to Emily for making crucial tackles, carrying metres and controlling the forwards game.
