This Sunday’s game saw Bletchley woman at a local derby league clash against MK. The women took the support of Pink Punters’ iconic rainbow bus with them, and emerged victorious in a close 22-15 win over the home side.

Kick off! The first 20 minutes were a slow start for Bletchley as they tried to play MK’s way, not the Bletchley way. MK scored first, but unconverted, with some good play on the wing. A second try for MK looked close, but Bletchley put in a great defensive set to prevent this. After a swift exit, Lauren took control of the ball and accelerated off to score a well deserved try for Bletchley!
Possession was fairly even between the two teams and MK drove hard into our defence. Bletchley unfortunately gave away a few penalties on the line which saw MK score their second try of the game.
Bletchley came back harder, bringing more structure into our pods to drive us forward against the wind and sloping pitch. Despite a yellow card for a front row powerhouse, Bletchley remained in control of the game and mauled their way to a second try, peeled off the back of the maul by Shenay. We ended the first half on another rapid run through defence for Lauren, and a conversion from Jess to put us ahead going into half time.

Watching kick off at the second half, you could tell Bletchley had switched on and were fired up to get over the white line again. MK had also stepped up their game and had lots to offer in pace on the wings. Bletchley did well to defend for a while, but eventually MK scored. The score sat at 15-17 to Bletchley for what seemed like forever. At last Lauren raced over the line for a hat trick! Only three minutes before the final whistle, relief spread. Now, to hold on for those few last minutes. Bletchley tried to keep possession, but MK successfully turned over the ball in our 22… MK kept fighting until the end, but the win was secured with the player in possession being driven off the pitch. The whistle blew. Bletchley were victorious once again!

Thank you to MK for hosting, it was a great match.

Thank you to our sponsor, Pink Punters, for supporting Bletchley women and the women’s game.
