Gosford All Blacks 17 – 27 Bletchley 1st XV
Counties 1 Tribute Ale Southern North – League Fixture
Bletchley produced a composed and clinical performance on the road to secure a 27–17 victory over Gosford All Blacks, claiming a valuable bonus-point win in bright spring conditions.
The hosts made the perfect start, capitalising on an early error to score from an interception at 1 minute, converting to take a 7–0 lead.
Bletchley responded quickly. At 5 minutes, outside centre Elliott Hales broke the line and released fly half Jake Allen, who showed excellent support down the wing to finish well, reducing the deficit to 7–5.
Gosford extended their lead at 12 minutes, finishing from a kick chase to make it 12–5.
Bletchley grew into the game and began to assert control. At 21 minutes, after Gosford were penalised for offside on their own 5-metre line, number 8 and captain Hugo Govett tapped quickly and powered through the defence to score. Hales added the conversion to level the score at 12–12.
With momentum building, Bletchley took control early in the second half. At 42 minutes, a dominant lineout and driving maul from inside the Gosford 22 proved unstoppable, with flanker Tom Perkins grounding at the back to give Bletchley the lead 17–12.
The visitors continued to apply pressure through multiple attacking phases, and at 61 minutes, quick ball down the blindside found Allen, who dived over for his second try of the afternoon to extend the lead to 22–12.
Bletchley’s forward platform remained a key strength throughout, particularly the driving maul, which Gosford struggled to contain whenever it was set.
At 70 minutes, Bletchley added their fourth try to secure the bonus point. A lineout provided the platform before the ball was moved into midfield, where Archie Barrett stepped and weaved through defenders before releasing winger Ben Ruoss, who finished well in the corner to make it 27–12.
Gosford responded late with a try at 79 minutes, finding space from a lineout move to bring the final score to 27–17.
There were strong performances across the side. Hales was outstanding, consistently breaking the line and creating opportunities, earning a well-deserved Man of the Match award.
Allen impressed with two well-taken tries and intelligent support play, while Govett led from the front with powerful carries. The forward pack laid the foundation for the victory, with the driving maul a constant threat.
There were also positive contributions from debutants, with flanker Adam Riches delivering a physical defensive performance, tackling relentlessly throughout his time on the field, and Dylan Brown making an impact from the bench in the back row.
In excellent playing conditions, Bletchley combined strong set-piece work with clinical finishing to secure an important away win and maintain momentum in the league.
