Bletchley 1st XV 12 – 52 High Wycombe
Counties 1 Tribute Ale Southern North –
Manor Fields played host to a special Remembrance Weekend fixture, with both sides and supporters standing together to honour those who served and sacrificed.
We were privileged to be joined by service personnel from 158 Regiment, Royal Logistic Corps, who attended in uniform to represent the Armed Forces community, along with a British Army musician, who performed The Last Post and Reveille with great dignity and composure. The moment of silence that followed was impeccably observed across the ground - a powerful and shared act of remembrance.
When play began, Bletchley faced an early challenge. At 3 minutes, scrum half Jack Sharp, acting as the last defender, was penalised for a high tackle. The referee awarded a penalty try, and Sharp received a yellow card, leaving Bletchley temporarily down to 14 men and trailing 0–7.
High Wycombe capitalised while a man up, adding tries at 5 minutes and 12 minutes, converting both to extend their lead to 0–21.
Bletchley responded strongly once they returned to full numbers. At 15 minutes, outside centre Elliott Hales took a direct line through midfield to finish well. Fly half Cameron Watkins converted to bring the score to 7–21.
Wycombe then took control of the remainder of the half, scoring tries at 35, 39, and 40 minutes, converting twice to take a 7–38 advantage into half-time.
Bletchley worked hard to re-establish territory and defensive structure, but Wycombe maintained momentum, adding further tries at 50 minutes and 63 minutes, extending the lead to 7–52.
The home side continued to dig in and finished with determination. At 78 minutes, Sharp made a positive impact on his return, sniping from the base to score Bletchley’s second try of the match. The conversion was missed, leaving the final score 12–52.
Discipline made the afternoon harder, with yellow cards to Hales at 68 minutes and Full Back, Ollie Comery at 72 minutes, requiring further defensive resilience from the squad.
Despite the scoreline, there were standout individual efforts. Lock Sam Brown delivered an exceptional defensive performance - his work rate, physical presence, and commitment in contact were constant across the full 80 minutes, earning him a deserved Man of the Match.
While the result will be disappointing, the group will reflect, reset, and regroup as the Counties 1 Tribute Ale Southern North campaign continues.
