On the 5th of October, Jess Fletcher – Co-Captain of Bletchley RUFC Women’s team – will be lacing up her trainers and taking on the Cardiff Half Marathon in memory of her father, Dene.
Earlier this year, Dene sadly suffered a cardiac arrest in rural Wales. Thanks to the swift response and world-class care provided by the Wales Air Ambulance Charity, he was given the best possible chance. Despite their incredible efforts, Dene passed away a week later. Now, Jess is determined to give something back to the service that was there when her family needed it most.

About Wales Air Ambulance Charity
The Wales Air Ambulance is a vital service that provides lifesaving emergency care across Wales. Operating 24/7, 365 days a year, their helicopters and rapid response vehicles bring the hospital to the patient — no matter how remote the location.
From road traffic collisions to medical emergencies in rural communities, the charity’s highly trained critical care consultants and practitioners are equipped with the skills and equipment normally found in an emergency department. This can make the difference between life and death.
Importantly, Wales Air Ambulance is a charity. It relies entirely on donations to keep its helicopters in the air and its crews on the road, costing around £11.2 million every year to operate.
Why Jess is Running
After completing her last half marathon, Jess promised herself she’d never run again. But for this cause, she’s bringing her running shoes out of retirement.
Jess said “I’m running to honour my dad and to say thank you to the Wales Air Ambulance for the amazing care they gave him. If I can raise funds to help them continue their work and save more lives, then every step will be worth it.”
As Co-Captain of Bletchley Women, Jess leads by example both on and off the field. Her commitment to this challenge shows the strength of spirit and determination that embodies our club and is something we are incredibly proud of her for doing!
Let’s get behind Jess!
Jess’s challenge is about more than just running 13.1 miles – it’s about giving back to a service that saves countless lives across Wales each year.
By donating, you’re helping to ensure that the Wales Air Ambulance can continue to reach families in their hour of need. Jess would be most grateful for any donations to support her in such a worthy cause.
Jess will be running not just for herself, but for her dad, her family, and for everyone who may one day need the lifesaving support of the Wales Air Ambulance.
Let’s cheer her on, share her story, and help raise as much as possible for this incredible charity.
