Bletchley 2nd XV Kick Off League Campaign with Derby Showdown

Bletchley 2nd XV Kick Off League Campaign with Derby Showdown

Tom Sharp24 Sep - 18:50

First league clash of the season — and it’s the biggest one there is!

This weekend marks a huge moment for the Bletchley 2nd XV, as they line up for their first league fixture of the season — and it doesn’t get much bigger than this. On Saturday at 2:00 pm, the squad make the short trip to Emerson Valley Sports Pavilion to face off against fierce local rivals, Milton Keynes 2nd XV.

After a summer of hard graft and friendlies that tested the squad, this is the first opportunity for the 2s to show what they’re made of in a competitive league contest. The warm ups are done. The learning curve is behind them. Now, the stakes are real — and with local bragging rights on the line, there could be no better way to kick off the campaign.

Fierce Rivalry, Fresh Season
Whenever Bletchley and Milton Keynes meet, there’s an edge in the air. These fixtures are more than just matches; they’re battles of pride, tradition, and local standing. Both clubs know the importance of this derby, and both squads will want to lay down a marker from the very first whistle.

Milton Keynes, with home advantage, will be looking to impose themselves early, while Bletchley will arrive determined to make a statement on enemy soil. The 2s have worked hard through preseason, and with a strong blend of youthful energy and experienced heads, they’ll be out to prove they can go toe-to-toe with anyone in this league.

Setting the Tone for the Season
The first competitive fixture is always pivotal. It sets the tone, builds belief, and creates momentum that can carry through the season. For the 2s, this isn’t just about ninety minutes of rugby — it’s about establishing themselves in the competition, showing their resilience under pressure, and reminding everyone that Bletchley are a club with depth, passion, and ambition at every level.

Expect a physical battle in the forwards, where the contest for dominance at scrum and breakdown will be key. The backs will need sharp execution to exploit space and turn half-chances into points. And above all, discipline will be critical — derbies can be won or lost in fine margins.

Let’s fill Emerson Valley in Maroon & White
With no 1st XV fixture this weekend, all eyes turn to the 2s. We’re calling on the Maroon & White Army to turn out in force and pack the sidelines at Emerson Valley. Your presence, your noise, and your colours make a difference.

Let’s transform an away ground into a wall of Bletchley voices, and let our lads feel the support every step of the way. This is about community, pride, and showing that our club stands shoulder to shoulder — whether home or away.
