Volunteer of the Month
In order to recognise the time and effort put into the club by the numerous volunteers involved in the operation of the Club, Bletchley have introduced the "Valuing the Volunteer" scheme. Full details (including a nomination form) can be found in the Downloads area, and the list covering the latest award winners can be found below!

David Walter - Youth Secretary
David's award is arguably well overdue. He is now in his third season as Secretary for the Youth sub-committee and has always been one of the first to get his name on the least to help out with events such as recruitment days. However, it has been his efforts over the last month or so which has really brought his contribution to the attention of the Club Executive.

Colin Pendle - Volunteer
Colin's name isn't one that will be recognised by many, but literally thousands of people who come into contact with our club each year come into contact with something he has helped to produce. The club leaflet and membership booklets have to be reproduced every summer and he goes well beyond the call of duty when completing his part of the process.

Dave Coleman - 1st XV Captain
Dave, like his father Stu (Seniors Chairman) is a man who is always willing to help out whenever and wherever he can. 2006/07 will be his second season as Captain of the 1st XV, a role which he has performed admirably over the last 12 months.
Over the last few weeks Dave has been down at the clubhouse armed with a paintbrush. Along with Stu he has painted the changing rooms and downstairs alleyway. This refurbishment work has made a huge difference and will be appreciated by many once rugby resumes and the building returns to full use.

Sue Punter - Clubhouse Manager
There is little doubt that Sue very much deserves her second Volunteer of the Month award. During June it has been Sue who has opened up the clubhouse on a Saturday so that members could watch the international tour matches, but this has really been the tip of the iceberg in terms of the contribution she has made to Bletchley RUFC.
Sue's services to the club stretch back over a long period, but she has she has really come to the fore over the last 2-3 years as Clubhouse Manager where she has organised on a day to day basis everything from club dinners and external functions through to the Saturday afternoon catering and bar service. Invaluable work which really can't be over-estimated...

Graham Bolitho - Senior Player & Assistant Coach, U11s
Graham's nomination came through as the result of the electrical work he has recently done as part of the clubhouse refurbishment, but he has of course put in several years of effort coaching what will be next season's U11s squad. His name also appears frequently on the list of people helping out at Community Development events down at Manor Fields.
We've had several awards this year in recognition of voluntary work in the clubhouse. This is often unglamorous stuff, and frequently done when no one else is around to provide the applause. It is nonetheless extremely important...

Ian Nobes - Ex-Player
Ian has been a familiar face at Bletchley for many years, both as a player and as the father of Matt who played last season for all three Senior teams. Ian hasn't got an official role at our club but that didn't stop him from helping out in April when the completion of the downstairs bar refurbishment required new radiators and some plumbing. This assistance wasn't high profile (that's probably not Ian's style), but it's certain that in the winter months the players using the bar after training mid-week evenings will have reason to be very grateful for his efforts!

Terry Keillor - U17 Tour Coordinator & Youth Funding Coordinator
This is Terry's second appearance on the list, he receiving the 'VotM' award back in October 2004 for his fundraising efforts. This time around though the nomination was made to the Club Executive following his lead involvement with the U17 tour to Dublin at Easter. Due to circumstances beyond the club's control, the original tour to Lille had to be cancelled at short notice and it was Terry who stepped in to arrange an alternative. This he did with Teamlink, but he went several steps further by pulling together a complete package which covers activities, meals etc. To do this he ahs literally spent hours on the phone and the internet investigating and talking to restaurants, leisure centres etc. A major effort, and one which the tour party very much appreciate.

Mark Bailey - U8 Squad Manager/Assistant Coach & Community Development Officer
February's Volunteer of the Month is another who has gone down the classic route... Arriving at the club as the parent of a 'Super-6' player, Mark helped the U-7 coaching/management team with odd jobs and was identified as a potential volunteer. Persuaded to take on the role of U-7 Squad Manager the following season , Mark then offered to go on the Level I coaching course so he could help out on the training pitch. From that point it was a short step to getting involved with coaching in schools and other Community Development events...
