Sunday 15 November 2009: Leighton Buzzard U15 46-12 Bletchley U15 Print E-mail
Bletchley got off to a slow start against a confident Leighton side, the first twenty five minutes saw Leighton control much of the game and run in six tries with three conversions after keeping Bletchley pinned in their own half. There was some promising signs from the lads, with some good play by Brandon Penton, Kallan Crawley and Liam Kennedy standing out from the rest, this appeared to spark a fightback and after some good play Bletchley put their first points on the scoreboard with an outstanding try by William Thornett. The rest of the half saw some hard exchanges between the teams but no further scoring.

Half time score: Leighton Buzzard U15 36-5 Bletchley U15

In the second half the lads came out fighting, they outplayed Leighton in the centre of the park with the forwards dominating in the exchanges, especially Dil Punian playing at hooker who made good yardage time again with his aggressive ball carrying. It wasn’t long before the lads made the most of the strong play through the middle of the park and Alex Grogan charged over the line to add another five points followed by a lovely conversion from the boot of Liam Kennedy. Bletchley were now playing some good rugby and were passing the ball with confidence and putting in some great tackles, Ryan Nightingale, William Thornett, Steven Brown and Alex Fletcher were breaking up the Leighton attacks that kept them on the defensive. However, late into the match Leighton were able to score two late tries down the wings due to some good running and a couple of loose tackles. Bletchley played well today especially in the centre of the park with some great play by Jake Jenkins and Brandon Penton but a lot of their hard work went unrewarded and the final score did not represent the good work and discipline showed by the Bletchley lads.

Sunday 08 November 2009: Drifters U15 20-25 Bletchley U15 (Bucks Junior League) Print E-mail
Bletchley made the long trip to Farnham Common with 14 players for this Bucks League match and proved that even with the usual lack of numbers it is possible to come away with a victory.

The lads started well and there were some hard tackles being made by the forwards Dil Punian, Jack Lawrence and Brandon Penton, but on 10 minutes the Drifters collected the ball and charged towards the Bletchley line and despite an excellent tackle by Dil, managed to force their way over to score the first try of the match.

From the restart Bletchley moved into the opposing half and after a good passage of forward play and some excellent running by Alex Fletcher, Alex Grogan scored the first Bletchley try. Bletchley’s confidence was growing with every minute and after more aggressive play and good handling Jack Lawrence scored to make it 5-10.

Again from the restart the lads collected the ball and drove into the opposing half forcing the Drifters to defend in their own 22. From the constant pressure it wasn’t long before Steven Brown collected the ball and ran almost the entire length of the pitch while being pursued by a couple of the Drifters backs, and scored a great individual try bringing the score to 5-15. . Just before the half time whistle the Drifters pushed their way into the Bletchley half and managed to score in the corner bringing the half time score to 10-15.

In the second half the play remained even with some good play by both teams. However, after some strong mauling by Bletchley Alex Grogan received the ball following good play at the back of the maul and he charged over the line to make the score 10-20. The Bletchley lads appeared to lose some of their concentration from the restart and the Drifters made the most of this by running in two consecutive tries which brought the scores level at 20-20. As the clock was ticking down it looked as though the spoils would be shared but Bletchley kept on fighting and were camped in the Drifters half when the ball was passed out to Jack Lawrence who ran for the line and to the delight of the travelling supporters went over in the corner to score the final 5 points before the whistle giving Bletchley a deserved 20-25 victory.

Sunday 04 October 2009: Bletchley U15 0-40 Aylesbury U15 Print E-mail
The Bletchley lads started the game well with good early pressure from the kick off. There was some good mauling from the forwards in the opposition half before an Aylesbury back retrieved the ball from open play and stormed deep into the Bletchley half before being tackled, from the resulting maul the referee blew for an offside from a Bletchley player. Aylesbury converted the penalty kick putting the first three points on the board.

From the re-start Aylesbury collected the ball and advanced up the park passing the ball out to the wing with confidence. Some good tackles were going in from the Bletchley lads but Aylesbury proved to strong and carried the ball over the line for another five points. The conversion was missed. Aylesbury now had their tales up and scored a further two tries and a conversion before half time.

Half time score: Bletchley U15 0-20 Aylesbury U15

The lads returned to the field for the second half and tried to approach the game with renewed vigour. There were some excellent tackles being made by the lads but Aylesbury were full of confidence and this showed by their ball handling and running off the ball. Bletchley were forced back into their own half and rarely managed to push their way through the Aylesbury line. The lads defended well and stifled many Aylesbury attacks but due to the constant pressure and strong play from the Aylesbury forwards two tries came in quick succession. Unfortunately, Aylesbury’s confidence was continuing to grow and started to show in their verbal off the ball exchanges. This saw the game start to deteriorate and when the lads were penalised for pushing too far at the scrum when they were a metre from the Aylesbury try line, a penalty was awarded to Aylesbury which resulted in another try, more comments were exchanged between the teams.

Bletchley started well from the re- start and employed a move perfected on the training ground where the forwards smashed into the Aylesbury line gaining five yards at a time. This move worked well and they were smashing the Aylesbury line.  Sadly, the simmering between the sides boiled over at this point and the game was brought to an end shortly thereafter.

Sunday 18 October 2009: Olney U15 68-5 Bletchley U15 (Bucks Cup) Print E-mail
The Bletchley lads were very much put the test in this Bucks Cup match. From the kick-off Olney were very switched on and chased down every loose ball. In the first couple of minutes they quickly moved the ball to the right wing and scored the first unconverted try. After the re-start Olney were again on the attack and pressed into the Bletchley half with ease. The ball was kicked towards the Bletchley try line which was closely followed by their players. A fumble by the Bletchley backs gifted Olney with their second unconverted try again in the right hand corner of the field. Bletchley showed some promise with their forward play and plenty of good tackles were being made in the middle of the park. Olney were penalised for a high tackle which was kicked to touch; unfortunately Olney stole the ball from the resulting line-out and charged towards the Bletchley try-line and went over for their third try after being held up by some good tackling from the Bletchley lads. A good kick followed the try and two more points were added. For the remainder of the half Olney continued to control the match with some strong driving play and good handling skills. The Bletchley lads were trying to compete and never lost heart even though they were soon to be down to thirteen players when No8 Bailey Skinner left the field with an ankle injury. While he was off the lads found it hard to keep Olney at bay and they scored four more tries and three conversions before half time.

Half time score: Olney U15 46-0 Bletchley U15

Bailey limped back on for the second half but Inside Centre Alex Fletcher was unable to run out due to a head injury he received just before half-time following a crunching tackle he made on an Olney forward. He would later leave the field by ambulance. This meant the Bletchley lads were going to be playing the second half with thirteen players. Unfortunately with Olney playing well and their confidence showing in their play and Bletchley down to thirteen players, the second half was going to be an uphill battle, and so it proved to be, a further four tries and one conversion were scored by Olney and a late try coming from some excellent play by the lads ending with Scrum half Alex Grogan forcing his way over the Olney try line to secure five well deserved points for Bletchley. The lads had a much better second half and appeared to throw caution to the wind and through everything they had at a strong Olney side. Even though they came off the field beaten they remained unbowed.
