Disappointing end to Bletchley Colts season as they suffer a second consecutive defeat.
Bletchley Colts season ended in a disappointing defeat to Newbury Colts at Manor fields.
The weather could not have been better for the match and the visitors took advantage of the conditions, running in a very slick early try to lead 7-0 within the first 10 mins of the game.
The two teams played with completely different styles; Bletchley powering the ball forward through their pack and dominating the scrummage and early line outs, whilst Newbury used quick ball to let their fast and powerful backs to run the ball wide outflanking the hosts on numerous occasions, Bletchley only being saved from further scores by a series of forward final passes. The visitors however continued to dominate possession, helped by numerous Bletchley handling errors and penalties, and Newbury were rewarded with two further converted tries through their lively back line before half time to lead 21-0 at the break.
After a the break, Bletchley took to the park reinvigorated and were rewarded after a prolonged period of forward possession and an excellent set of driving runs into the Newbury defence, the ball eventually being switched wide for Jack Evans to touch down on the resultant overlap (5-12).
Continued Bletchley dominance upfront, particularly at the Scrum and line out , led to another home score from an excellent drive at a line out, Adam Downing touching down and Ethan Rodgers converting to take the score to 12 -21. Bletchley continued to pressurise but with a head injury in the middle of the park and the ball in touch, Bletchley were caught out by a quick Newbury line out which ended with their forwards driving through under the posts for another score and a bonus point converted try -12-28.
Newbury's defence frustrated Bletchley throughout the latter part of the second half and their efforts, combined with the home side's indiscipline, meant the visitors held on for a comfortable victory in the end. 12-28 the final result.
