Bletchley Colts 5 - Oxford Quins 14
By Tony Rice
Bletchley's league hopes take a serious set back with Defeat to Oxford Quins
A very windy and wet Manor fields welcomed Bletchley's opponents Oxford Quins in a crunch league tie for both teams. The weather was not the best for attractive running rugby and the line outs were often a difficult set piece for both teams.
Quins started the brighter and were rewarded by a early opening try when their winger evaded 3 tackles to score under the posts. Bletchley then enjoyed a long period of possession and pressure and Dean Loveridge barrelled his way over after some sustain pod drives to make the score 5-7 at the break.
The second half saw the weather worsen with increased winds, rain and hail lashing across Manor fields. Despite sustained Bletchley pressure and a period of almost 20 mins on the Quins line or in their 22, excellent defence and a number of silly penalties stopped Bletchley crossing the Quins line.
Frustration eventually got the better of Bletchley and with 5 mins remaining and trying to run he ball wide against the driving wind resulted in Bletchley spilling the ball and the Quins centre gathered the ball in his own 22, evaded 4 Bletchley tackles andcracced away to score the decisive winner under the posts.
A disappointing result for Bletchley after so much pressure and possession.
