Junior Rugby for boys aged between 12 and 17

Bletchley are able to offer Junior rugby for those aged between 12 and 16 on 1/9/2009. As with the Minis/Midis, players are allocated to squads on the basis of age.

From U-13 to U-17, Juniors play 15-a-side on a full size pitch. Matches are played to IRB U19 regulations with some modifications for younger age groups are required by the RFU.  (No lifting in the lineout & scrum half offside line is the scrum tunnel for U15 ane below.  Match times reduced.)

Training takes place midweek (day depending on the squad), with matches on Sunday mornings when at home, usually 10.30-midday with an earlier start for away matches). As with the Minis/Midis, the majority of games are friendly fixtures against other local clubs, but there is more participation in competitions (e.g. Bucks leagues for U15s & U16s, OBB league for U17s and County Cup for U13s to U17s).

Our Coaches

Bletchley require Coaches to hold the RFU qualifications that are appropriate for their position. Involvement with constituent bodies is encouraged, and Bletchley have historically provided a number of the Buckinghamshire and East Midlands/Northampton Alliance squad coaches.

Safety First

As Rugby is a contact sport, the players' safety is of paramount concern. RFU-recognised First Aid qualifications are held by club officials, and a physiotherapist is available. All registered playing members are covered by the RFU Insurance Scheme (although separate, individual insurance is also recommended). For the Minis and Juniors, coaches are Police checked, and the club has a Child Protection Officer whose role is to ensure that RFU, MK Council, and Club guidelines are followed.

Playing Kit

As part of the membership package, the Club provides:

• A playing shirt (handed out to the team and returned on match days)

• Boots (with aluminium rugby, or rubber moulded studs)
• Training trousers/playing shorts
• Training Top (club tops are available for purchase)
• Playing socks
• Mouthguard/gum shield (RFU recommendation)
• Shin pads (RFU recommendation)

Additional protective clothing (e.g. a scrum cap) is not required for Junior, but if purchased then parents should ensure that it carries the IRB (International Rugby Board) label.

Watches/jewellery cannot be worn while playing/training.

Junior Membership

The combined membership and subscription fee for 2009/10 is £55. This covers the basic RFU insurance cover and food for home matches.
