Two teams from Bletchley under 9's travelled to Leighton Buzzard for their first fixture of the 2006/07 season and their first ever mini rugby fixture as they transition from Mini Tag. They were joined by two teams from Northampton Old Scouts in a triangular series of matches played on pitches that had benefitted well from heavy overnight rain.
Leighton Buzzard had prepared an area for the fixture, but with both Bletchley and Northampton Old Scouts in attendance it was obviously going to be a tight squeeze. Fortunately the abundance of full size pitches at Leighton Buzzard was able to be exploited and Leighton Buzzard welcomed support from Bletchley in rapidly marking out two pitches on half of one of their full size pitches and the main event began apace.

Pitch 1: Bletchley Lions 25-0 Northampton Old Scouts A
Pitch 2: Bletchley Barbarians 0-20 Northampton Old Scouts B
With both Bletchley teams in action simultaneously, there was little time for any "first match" nerves to surface and both teams delivered outstanding performances for their first outing in the contact game.
Scorers for Bletchely Lions: Cameron Watkins (2) Elliot Hales (3)

Pitch 1: Bletchley Barbarians 5-15 Northampton Old Scouts A
Tired from their first match, but not deflated Northampton Old Scouts proved too strong for the Bletchley Barbarian team with Jack Ellams managing an impressive Consolation Try.
Scorer: Jack Ellams.

Pitch 1: Bletchley Barbarians 5-20 Leighton Buzzard A
Pitch 2: Bletchley Lions 10-5 Leighton Buzzard B
The final outing of the day for both teams saw the Lions deliver another strong confident performance and gain another deserved victory. Again the Barbarians fell to stronger opposition, but the try from newcomer Callum Warren let Leighton Buzzard know they'll have a harder time when they meet again in January.
Scorers: Bletchley Barbarians: Callum Warren Bletchely Lions: Cameron Watkins, Elliot Hales
Overall this was a fantastically impressive from all the boys and they have coped magnificantly with the changes this year. Congratulations to them and to the coaches for their work in getting them this far at this stage in the season. Bletchley still have a way to go but all of the boys have much to be proud of from this day out.
